Attack Templates

Attack templates are the building blocks of a security scan. Each template defines a specific adversarial scenario — the task, the payload, the environment, and what signals to look for.

How Templates Work

  1. Templates are loaded from YAML files by the AttackRegistry
  2. The AttackPlanner selects templates based on scan config and agent capabilities
  3. Each template is instantiated into an Attack with resolved parameters
  4. The Scanner selects a base environment profile matching the agent's tools (via select_environment_profile), then the AttackExecutor calls env_builder.build_for_attack(attack) to merge the template's environment_setup into an isolated per-attack environment with canary tokens
  5. The AttackExecutor runs the agent in that environment and attaches it to the AgentTrace

Stealth Levels

Templates are classified by how detectable the attack is:

Level Description Scoring Weight
obvious Clearly adversarial (e.g., "ignore instructions") 1.0x
subtle Social engineering, plausible framing 1.5x
highly_stealthy Encoded, multi-step, or deeply hidden 2.0x

A successful highly stealthy attack contributes more to the vulnerability score than an obvious one, since it indicates a harder-to-fix weakness.
